Web Screenshots
Visually investigate exposed assets on the Censys Platform with recurring and on-demand web screenshots.
This feature is in beta and is available to all Core and Enterprise customers.

Screenshot capture details
Screenshots for industrial control system (ICS) and remote desktop sharing and control services are captured every time they are hit by a regular Censys scan. Note that ICS services are only visible to organizations with access to ICS protocols.
Screenshots are captured for HTTP and HTTPS services whenever they are targeted by Live Rescan or Live Discovery. Screenshots obtained from on-demand scans are visible to all users on Enterprise plans.
Screenshots are displayed on host service cards and web property endpoint cards.
Recurring screenshots are captured for the following protocols and services during regular Censys scans. New screenshots for them are also obtained when they are targeted by an on-demand scan.
- ICS
- CMORE_HMI
- Red Lion Crimson
- SCADA_VIEW
- Remote desktop sharing and control
- VNC
- RDP
- X11
NoteScreenshots may not be available for some remote desktop services for a variety of reasons, such as a certificate requirement, RDP policy, and so on.
Screenshot data object and fields
You can search for the presence of the screenshots
data object on host and web property records to find services and endpoints with screenshots. Combine a search targeting the screenshots
data object with a specific protocol to find all service or endpoint records for that protocol that have accompanying screenshots. For example, host.services: (protocol=RDP and screenshots: *)
will return all hosts running RDP services with screenshots of those services.
Unique identifiers values for Censys-captured screenshots are provided in the host.services.screenshots.handle
, host.services.endpoints.screenshots.handle
, and web.endpoints.screenshots.handle
fields.
Explicit content filtering
Censys uses the Google Cloud Vision API to detect explicit content in screenshots. Images that are detected to contain explicit content will not be shown. A later release will enable you to view screenshots marked as explicit.
